I hope that the beginning of the year has been productive and full of goodness!

The beginning of 2016 has been a challenging one for me. I am back into training after a well-deserved rest from the World Champs and now planning for what should be a big year.

To recap my World Champs, I competed extremely well and attempted New Zealand Records which were unfortunately disallowed.

Even still, it was an amazing competition!

My Commonwealth Games experience held me in good stead and I remained focused on the game plan.

The competition was extremely fierce with the standard of women’s weightlifting on the rise. However, I held my own and am now focused on doing what I need to do to ensure the success of the NZ women’s team at the Oceania Championships which will ensure we gain qualification for one Olympic Games spot.

My first comp in 2016 will see me spending my Valentine’s Day competing here at AUT Millennium for the AucklaTracey Lambrechsnd Championships. I will then have one more competition in New Zealand before my NZ team training camp in April (also based here at AUT Millennium) and then the big comp in Fiji!

Fiji is the Oceania Championships and our Olympic Qualifying event. The New Zealand women’s team will need to place top four in Oceania for us to send an athlete to the Rio Olympics! Any placing below 4th and we will not be able to head to Rio.

I have always enjoyed competing here at AUT Millennium, the competitions are guaranteed to run at a high level and I enjoy the home advantage. The facilities really are world class!

Keep an eye open for the schedule for the competition if you would like to come down and support!

In the next few months I will keep you updated on my progress in training as well as all the extra bits and pieces I get up to here at AUT Millennium
