Another block of AUT Millennium’s Skills Clinics is just around the corner. Spaces are filling up quickly. With summer approaching, we are excited to add a new clinic that focuses on Water Safety!

AUT Millennium Skills Clinics have been designed to use the entire lesson to focus on one specific stroke or swimming skill. This allows the swim instructors to go back to basics and focus on breaking down the stroke to build it back together, step by step, to help eliminate habits that may be holding your child back. Clinics also allow repetition to ensure your child has fully grasped each aspect of the stroke.

Here are some of the skills we focus on in the Clinics.

Diving

Diving Clinics focus on building the confidence of our swimmers when diving into the pool. We aim to progress them from kneeling diving from the side of the pool to diving off the block with confidence and correct technique.

Turns

Doing a forward roll into the water is a tricky skill to master. Doing a flip onto the wall and pushing off in the correct technique back to the surface takes practice. With the help of the Turns Clinics, swimmers can learn and focus on correcting the approach to the wall, flipping onto the wall with the correct foot placement, as well as the push off into the correct streamline and kick to the surface.

Butterfly

Butterfly requires momentum, and timing to build up the distance and stamina. Our clinics focus on breaking down the butterfly to build up the kick, before adding the arms. The butterfly kick is the most important part of the stroke as it builds rhythm. Once swimmers establish a strong butterfly kick, the focus moves to the arms and the timing of the stroke.

Breaststroke

Breaststroke is often the toughest stroke to master. Our Breaststroke Clinic focuses on correcting the kick to make sure swimmers are turning out their feet, and following the correct path to get the strongest push forward. Learning the correct timing of the stroke helps to create the least amount of drag and improve efficiency with each stroke.

Water Safety – NEW!

The newest addition to AUT Millennium Holiday Clinics focuses on building your child’s confidence in the water that is out of their depth. Our key focus in these clinics is to teach your children how to keep themselves afloat, get themselves to safety, and use whatever is available to help them stay afloat and conserve energy.

Our next block of Holiday Intensives and Skills Clinics will be held during the September/October school holidays. These sessions are also open to the public so invite your friends to sign up too. Enquire about these upcoming school holiday clinics and be sure to get in early, as the classes fill up quickly!
